International Feedback From Paris:

Jaymie,

I have just watched your film. in Paris. I am very pleased that it went through and already got an award. Well done!! Some quick impressions.

I really like the cleverness of the scenario. You see actors talking and trying to make it out onto the big stage, and before you know it, you have a movie, and they are doing it. Although the characters are not “real”, some of your words such as “I am a writer first,” are.

There are a couple of shots that I found interesting and original (from my amateur eye):

I like the one where you go to the shop owned by a guy with dreadlocks and have that discussion with the other actor. We see his face from your eyes and your face from his. I liked that.

I like the scene where you, with the lamp you show your drunken mother. I thought the play with the light, the small part of the bottle, the hair, was really convincing.

I like the trail walking around Hollywood.

I like “Gene’s” ( I did not really catch the spelling of his name) phrase “you have to see acting as an art form.”

I love the music selection.

I like the scene where each of you performed a line and the others have to name the actor and the movie.

I particularly enjoy the role of the guy who lost his father. (reminds me of Keb Mo by the way).

Oh and the scene on your eyes… Wonderful !!!

And lots of other things that make it enjoyable. but most of all, I like the integrity or ingeniuity of the film. It did not need all the special effects and tralala, of the superproduction. The film in itself is the message it conveys in the script.

In fact it is brillantly made, this a film which does exactly what it says it does (in my opinion). All the reason why, it looks like it is a very personal work althougth the characters are fictional…

So once again Well done Jaymie.

And congratulations to all the actors. It must have been a wonderfull experience. May this be another break out film!!

Feedback Stateside:

In a market flooded with films it’s always refreshing to see a film with a distinct point of view which projects the writer/director’s opinion and “Doin’ the LA Thing” does just that. I loved the references to other films and the interaction between the characters. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more from you!
